Beyond Elections: Creating Grassroots Democracy in our Communities

Thursday, January 10th, 7:00pm
Flying Squirrel Community Space, 285 Clarissa St, Rochester

One of the Green Party's Ten Key Values is grassroots democracy because we believe that being a political party is about more than just running candidates for office. Please join us at our January meeting in exploring how communities throughout the world are expanding the definition of democracy beyond election season and the ballot box.

We will spend some time viewing the documentary film, Beyond Elections, which provides a look into Brazil's participatory budgeting processes, Venezuela's communal councils, and other similar initiatives. We will also look at projects within the United States such as the neighborhood councils of Los Angeles.

The Flying Squirrel Community Space is a wheelchair accessible facility. ASL & other language interpretation may be provided upon request with at least 48 hours notice.

Human Rights Day Video

Did you miss the annual Human Rights Day celebration that the GPoMC co-sponsors with other area organizations?  Rochester Indymedia was there and recording so that you could still participate.  Watch this important discussion on Michelle Alexander's book, "The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness."  Speakers included Ream Kidane, Dr. Marvin McMickle, Rosemary Rivera, Ricardo Adams, and Maurice Miller.
