July Updates - Housing, Campaigns, Pride

Housing as a Human Right

July 9th, 2012, 7pm
Calvary-St. Andrew's Presbyterian Parish
68 Ashland St, Rochester, NY

Article 25 of the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights establishes housing as a human right. However, the reality is that many are deprived of quality, affordable housing in our communities due to our unwillingness to question the role the market plays in housing distribution.

Instead of treating land & housing as a commodity, we can use the principles of cooperative economics to guarantee that all the people of Monroe County have access to quality, affordable housing, instead of relying failed market forcesl. Our Secretary, Drew Langdon, a member of Ant Hill Cooperative & Green Party candidate for New York State Assembly in the 137th District, will be guiding the conversation.

Calvary-St. Andrew's is a wheelchair accessible facility. ASL interpretation can be provided with 48 hours notice to Drew @ peaceandrainbows [at] riseup [dot] net.

Campaign Updates

Jill Stein for President

Dr. Jill Stein has won a clear majority of delegates in the Green Party's presidential campaign and will be nominated at the National Convention in Balitmore from July 12-15.  Stein is expected to be on the ballot in over 40 states this November.

Today, the campaign also announced that they had succeeded in the drive to qualify for federal matching funds, with 21 states giving at least $5000 each.  This is the first time that a Green Party candidate has qualified for this program and will give the campaign access to double the funds that they have raised up to this point.
