We Did It!

In case you haven't heard the news, we did it! Howie Hawkins received the most votes in NYS history for a Green gubernatorial candidate with almost 60,000 votes. We have our ballot status back. That means for the next 4 years, we get to run local and state candidates MUCH easier. Thank you for all your work in spreading the word about the campaign, donating money, putting up lawn signs and most of all, for voting your values. We've been posting this on every message since the campaign started, now we get to change it a little bit:

*We get petition signatures to get our state-wide candidates on the ballot. [DONE]
*We get our candidates on the ballot to get 50,000 votes for Governor. [DONE]
*We get 50,000 votes for governor to get ballot status back in NYS. [DONE]
*We get ballot status back so we can run for office locally more easily. [HERE WE GO]
*We run for office locally to get Greens elected.
*We get Greens elected to change our community that serves the people’s interests.

Yep. It's time to start running people for local offices. To do that, we need to get our house in order. That means we need to get our county committee elected. We can't run candidates without that CC. So this Monday, November 8th at our monthly meeting we're going to do the following - celebrate our victory, plan for elections for the county committee and prepare for elections in 2011. The meeting is at the Flying Squirrel, 285 Clarissa Street in Corn Hill and goes from 7pm - 9pm. We hope you can make it.

Folks, there was a terrible turnout in this election. And less than 10% of the "younger" vote showed up. It's time for all of us to get involved. Even if you have no plans to run for office yourself, it takes a lot of people to win elections - even local elections. We have to step up. Please come on Monday and help us celebrate and continue down that road of making Monroe County green. Bring a friend!
