GENESEE GREEN PARTY OPENS QUARTERLY MEETING
WITH FARMING FILM ENTITLED “FED UP!”

Batavia, NY – The Green Party of Genesee County, New York is pleased to announce its quarterly meeting that includes the public viewing of a film about genetically engineered food and farming on Tuesday, October 23, 2007 at Present Tense Bookstore at 101 Washington Street in Batavia, NY.

The quarterly party meeting will be preceded by the viewing of the significant contemporary film, “Fed Up! Genetic Engineering, Industrial Agriculture and Sustainable Alternatives.” The film is open to the public and free and begins at 6:00 PM. It is approximately 58 minutes long and blends humor with informative facts revealing how genetic modification of food is not a foolproof system to abolish famine. It shows how millions of citizens remain impoverished while family farmers across our nation slowly disappear—even though seventy-percent of the food consumed in the United States contains genetically engineered ingredients not necessarily listed on the label, and the biotechnology industry spends an annual sum of $50 million to convince the population that this is the only way to truly solve world hunger.

“As we enjoy another satisfying harvest season in upstate New York, the Green Party would like to share this film as an informative opportunity,” Jason Nabewaniec, Chair of the Green Party said. “We welcome all members of our community to see this film and join in any post-film discussion dealing with the importance of small, locally grown food producers who make a vital contribution to our health, our agricultural economy, and to our communities.”
